Mike Bird and Mark Somyak made the right adjustments throughout the day to take 1st place honers with a total weight of 15.61 lbs.
Mike and Mark had planed to spend the day fishing for bass on beds which they had located during pre fish, but Mother Nature had different ideas with strong winds most of day. Mike and Mark stated that they decided to go with reaction baits early on in hopes that the winds would calm down later in the day so they could get back on the bedded fish. Tossing spinnerbaits in shallow water gave them an early limit but not the quality fish needed for a win. In the afternoon with the wind still blowing Mike and Mark decided to go back to the areas where they had earlier located some better quality bed fish. Switching to swimbaits and Rippin Lips Jigs was the right choice as the team was able to cull 3 of the fish from their earlier limit. The 4.39 lb. kicker fish came on a Rippin Lips Jig just 1/2 hour before weigh in.
Mike and Mark are leading the Tour Division in points and are working hard toward an Angler of the Year title. Congrats to a couple of great hard working anglers for your 1st Ultimate Bass Team Tour victory!

Look familiar? Yep, it's Mike Crowther and Mike Hansen with another good 5 fish limit which also included big fish of the tournament, a 4.44 lb. largemouth.
Mike and Mike returned to the same area they fished the day before only to find that there were still good numbers but not the quality fish as evidance from Saturday's huge 21.95 lb. bag. Even though the fish were not as big as what they had hoped for they still had a solid bag at 14.18 lbs to give them a 2nd place finish in Sunday's tournament. Mike Crowther stated " we just stuck with the same area we fished yesterday and were able to grind out a limit using spinnerbaits and soft plastics"

The 3rd place position was secured by Ron and Sherdian Colby of Page AZ. Ron reported that they made a long run to get a limit. The day started out with Sheridian casting tubes which resulted in a small limit of fish early Sunday morning, while Ron stayed with a black and blue jig in hopes of catching bigger fish that were moving to or were already in spawning areas in clear to slightley stained water. As the day progressed Ron and Sherdian targeted fish with spinnerbaits in clear water and used jigs in stained water to bring 13.52 lbs. to the weigh in.
With a 6th place finish on Saturday and the 3rd place finish on Sunday, Ron and Sherdian remain on top for the Lake Powell Division Angler of the year title with 668.85 points.
Special thanks to Ron Colby and Yamamoto Custom Baits for sponsoring the Plaques for both Saturday and Sunday tournaments.
