Danny Vine and Harry Baker dominated the field with 17.44 lbs to take 1st place honors at the first Lake Powell tournament of the 2012 season. Danny and Harry fished a verity of baits which included jigs, spinnerbaits and rip baits to catch their limit. Harry stated that the bites came early and that as soon as the sun hit the water the bite really slowed down. All of their fish were caught in stained water out to 15' deep. Included in their limit was the Biggest Bass of the tournament weighing in at 5.83 lbs. Congratulations and great job!
Lynn Jonas and Bob Dennett traveled from Southern Utah to take 2nd place in the 1 day UBTT Lake Powell South Division tournament. Lynn and Bob worked stained water to bring in 4 fish totaling 14.77 lbs. which included their kicker fish at 4.21 lbs. That's an avg. of 3.70 lbs. per fish. That's a pretty darn good avg. on any lake, especially with the pre tournament cold front and then changing to Blue Bird Skys on tournament day. Great job guys!
The Husband and Wife team of Rhonda and Ed Cummings weighed in a 5 fish limit for a total of 14.75 lbs; good enough to take 3rd place, just .02 out of 2nd place. Ed and Rhonda made the long run to the San Juan river to catch their limit. Great job you two!
A big thanks to the Brian Hammond Family for sponsoring the plaques for this event and to Bill Zegland for the use of the Gunsmoke Saloon for our sign up and awards meeting.
From the looks of things Lake Powell is going to kick out some awesome weights this year. Can't wait till May which in the past has had the largest weights recorded in tournament compition. Some anglers are predicting that we will by seeing bags this year between 28 and 30 lbs.
As we head into our 3rd year, we want to thank everyone for your support in the UBTT tournaments.
